Become a Foster Parent In El Paso
There is an ongoing need for foster families who are willing to provide temporary care and housing for children when their parents cannot properly care for them. These homes make an incredible difference by providing a safe and caring environment for children in difficult situations. Lee & Beulah Moor Children’s Home is actively looking for families with a desire to nurture a child who needs a safe place to live, and have the commitment to care for children who have lived through difficult experiences.
Foster Parent and Foster Home Requirements
To be considered as a potential foster parent with Lee & Beulah Moor Children’s Home, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Residents of the El Paso region.
- A minimum of 25 years of age.
- Couples applying must be married for two or more years. Single foster parents are welcome to apply.
- Have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
- Attend monthly foster parent training and demonstrate the ability to understand material presented.
- Be open to allowing the child access to develop a faith/spiritual foundation.
- Be financially solvent and not depend on foster care payments to meet monthly bills.
- Provide a home that meets fire, safety, and health standards.
- Exhibit maturity and emotional stability.
- Be physically healthy, free of communicable diseases, and be able to meet the physical stresses of parenting.
- All family members must be tested for TB and show negative results. Any children in the home must be current on immunizations.
- Submit to a criminal background check and fingerprint check.
Foster Parent Costs To Provide Foster Home
- Lee & Beulah Moor Children’s Home will provide all training required for licensure and conduct the home study at no cost to the foster family. This includes CPR and first aid training if the foster family is licensed.
- The foster family is responsible for obtaining items needed to pass fire and health inspections, including obtaining smoke detectors, a fire extinguisher, and a first aid kit.
- The agency will reimburse foster parent applicants for the required TB test, if the home is licensed by the agency.
- The foster family will be responsible for providing a bed and space for clothing for each child in their care. The agency may be able to assist foster families with some items, if those items are available in our donated-items stockroom.
- The agency will reimburse foster parents for a room and board fee for children placed in care. The present reimbursement fee is $25.00 per night that a child resides in a foster home. This is to cover the cost of food and additional utilities of housing a child.
- Medical costs for the foster child will be covered by the birth family, their insurance, Medicaid, or by the agency. Medical costs are not the responsibility of the foster family.
- Some clothing, school supplies, allowances, and other special events will be covered by the agency. Pre-approval for these expenses must first be obtained by the agency.
Agency Expectations for the Foster Family
- Provide a safe and nurturing home environment for children in their care. Follow all licensing requirements.
- Follow the discipline policy of the agency. Physical punishment of any kind is not allowed and will not be tolerated.
- The agency will devise a visitation plan for the child with his or her birth family. The foster home may need to provide transportation to and from these visits, and in some cases, may provide supervision.
- Transport the foster child to and from medical, dental, or therapy appointments.
- Share pictures on the child’s development and report the child’s progress while in your home. This will require frequent home contact with the agency and the completion of monthly reports to the agency.
- Be with the child at home if he/she is sick and unable to attend school. Working foster parents should have a back-up plan for these events as the agency is unable to care for sick children on a daily basis.
